My mum had colon cancer

February 2011

Mum was on medication for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and, was diagnosed with colon cancer in Feb this year.

Mum had been complaining of stomachaches and had been getting the runs.  She made frequent trips to the toilet and usually only passed out small quantities of soft stools.  For years, Mum has always had problems with constipation and had always self-medicated with over-the-counter drugs.  Mum stays on her own with her caregiver and she had not told us about her stomach problems, and usually wrote it off as nothing unusual.  It was her caregiver who alerted us that something was wrong with Mum.

In February, her stomach was giving her more problems and she was making more trips to the toilet.  After each trip, she still could not get the satisfaction of full bowel movement.  And as Mum was getting senile, she denied that she had passed out anything in the toilet.  Her caregiver was concerned enough to tell us about it.

Mum was sent to hospital.  Initially, the doctors thought she had food poisoning and prescribed charcoal tablets to curb the runs.  However, after some tests and 2 failed colonoscopies confirmed that there was a mass there, her medication was changed to help soften the stools and bowel movements.

The tumour was 5-6cm in diameter and was located in the wall of the descending colon.  It had not fully blocked the colon and it was through the small gap that her stools passed.  They called this overflow.

Doctors restricted her diet - no fibre (at most it was mashed up) as they are concerned about building up mess and contributing to the jam.

She was scheduled for surgery, and doctors had warned that at her age of 77, there are risks involved.  One was that if the conditions of the tissues were not good enough for re-attachment, the colon would have to be re-directed out through the abdomen and she would have to wear a bag to collect the waste until such time when another surgery could be done to re-connect the colon.

While awaiting surgery, my mum's caregiver, who was also trained in energy healing therapy, and I applied energy healing therapy on my mum everyday for several hours a day.  This was more than a week before her surgery.

Mum had a hysterectomy before, and during surgery, her intestines were all stuck together to the old surgical scars.  Doctors took a longer time than planned to seperate her intestines and straightened everything out.  The tumour was removed and the doctors managed to rejoin the colon.  Docs said that Mum was lucky that the tumour was not located lower, near the anus, as that would then make re-attachment impossible.

As the surgery had taken a longer than usual time, the doctors did not cleaned out the mess of old accumulated stools in her intestines.  After surgery, she was prescribed medication to soften and remove her stools.  We helped with energy healing therapy.

The doctors and family members agreed that Mum need not go for conventional treatment as her surgery was clean, the surrounding areas were not affected and her cancer cells were of moderate grade, plus Mum was already 77.

A full scope was done about 2 months after the surgery and everything was fine.  Mum has never wanted any restrictions to be placed on her diet and is back to her old ways, enjoying her food.
